Olapic is the premier social photo crowdsourcing service providing e-commerce sites, brands and publishers with tools to collect photos from their users, engage their audience and support a strong community built on photo sharing. Olapic helps companies grow by leveraging the power of data from multiple photo-sharing sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.
Started in 2010 by a group of engineers that met while each completing a MBA at Columbia Business School, Olapic now serves clients such as New York Daily News, New York Giants, and Mashable. Olapic is a graduate of NYC SeedStart, the winner of the 2010 Columbia University Lang Venture Fund, and has been featured by Mashable, Gigaom, TechCrunch, and The New York Times.
Photo-sharing is quickly becoming a ubiquitous form of digital communication. Every month more than 7 billion pictures are uploaded to the internet. Mobile phones and many other devices allow individuals to tell their own story through photo-sharing sites. Here at Olapic, we encourage everyone to visually express themselves!
We built Olapic to allow brands and publishers to collect pictures and videos from their audiences. Initially, the large amount of incoming content that our clients received made it hard for them to effectively identify quality photos. We quickly realized that our clients needed help not only collecting pictures but also curating them. For that reason, we began working on algorithms to sort large amounts of user submitted photos.
We discovered that the reputation of the photographer was the best proxy for identifying high quality pictures. Olapic measures photo-sharers' activities across Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, and Picplz (among others) to create a sphere of influence score. This score allows photographers to gain exposure when his or her work is published and shared online.
