5 Awesome Photos in Honor of “World Photo Day”

Happy World Photo Day everyone!

Although not an official, get-a-day-off-from-work kind of holiday, today is more than just an asterisk on our calendars. At Olapic, we believe that consumers’ photos are fundamentally changing the consumer-brand relationship in a profoundly positive way. As such, photos are critical to our business, and perhaps more importantly, to our personalities. Our team is made up of some incredibly talented Instagram photographers, who share their content with us regularly for use on this blog and in other marketing materials. Capturing the world through imagery is more than just a bullet point on our boilerplate, it’s an innate quality baked into the DNA of everyone who chooses to work here. And so, to celebrate this occasion, we’d like to highlight five of our favorite employee-generated photos.

But first, as much as we love the idea of World Photo Day, we were as curious as anyone as to where the holiday originated. According to the International Business Times, World Photo Day is “celebrated on Aug. 19 every year, because that was the day in 1839 that the French Academy of Sciences announced to the world the photographic technique known as daguerreotype, one of the first of its kind in the world. It had been developed by French individual named Louis-Jaques-Mandé Daguerre, hence the name daguerreotype.”

So, there you have it. Now, for some awesome photos:

You’ll notice that a majority of our favorite images involve food, and that is no coincidence…

Here’s to celebrating all of the creators who are capturing their experiences through photographs and sharing them with the world. We salute you. Happy World Photo Day!
