Inside Olapic: A Conversation with Jose Polo
Thanks for checking out our latest Inside Olapic, an employee interview series where we chat with individual members of our international team to learn more about their role, hobbies, and life in general.
Our core values at Olapic are: courage, collaboration, awareness, and performance, and we suspect you’ll find these qualities present in each of the OlaPeople you “meet.”
Below, you’ll get to know an integral member of our Engineering team in Argentina: Jose Polo.
Role: Scrum Master
Olapic Office: Córdoba
Time at Olapic: 6 months
What do you like most about your current role?
As Scrum Master, part of my role is to evangelize the agile practice so our team and organization can apply these principles to everything we do. Doing this has made me knock a lot of doors in the company, from the CEO to developers — I love that every door in Olapic has been always open for me.
What’s one superpower someone in your role or team must possess in order to succeed?
You have to be a super listener. When you have a conversation, you cannot just focus on what you are saying, but instead, pay attention to what your counterpart says, and what you can do with that information to help that person reach success.
What’s one bold prediction for the future of Earned Content?
I think integrating UGC into sports franchises will be the next big step – people want to represent their teams and colors, and what a better way than with Earned Content?
What is your favorite thing about the culture at Olapic?
Everything and everyone here really sets you up to do well. Whether it’s people or resources, just mention what you need and the company will support you at any level.
What brand is doing a great job of using UGC?
I’m a soccer fan, so I will say Adidas!
What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve been given?
Empowering someone to have motivation works way too better than imposing tasks. Look to fulfill others’ needs first, rather than your own, and success will happen naturally.
What Emoji best describes you and why?
It’s not an emoji but I would say exclamation mark (!) because I feel it communicates energy in my messages.
Tell us something we may not know about you?
I got married in Hawaii =)
Current favorite musician at the moment?
Mmm, I’m not a big music fan, maybe Bruno Mars or Nothing but Thieves?
Your go-to karaoke song?
Ja, good question! I won’t say that I do a lot of singing at karaoke, but from time to time when I’m at a party and someone brings a karaoke machine, I will sing one or two salsa songs.
What’re you watching most at the moment?
With one baby already, and another on the way, I have very little spare time. But when I do, I watch Netflix. I just finished Stranger Things and now I’m watching Luke Cage.
What was the last book you read? Why did you like/not like it?
It’s been awhile since I read a full book. The last one I completed read was Fifty Shades of Gray. I read it because I was curious why it was so famous and everyone was talking about it.
What does an ideal weekend look like to you?
Starts with a well rested night on Friday, then I would wake up on Saturday morning and have breakfast with the family, play with my dogs, and maybe watch a soccer game. A great day also always ends with a good asado in the countryside, next to the river with my family.
If you didn’t work here and could do anything, what would you be doing?
Traveling around the world! I would love to “meet” all the continents.
Any advice for people who want to work at Olapic?
JOIN US! Many companies market themselves on being “people-oriented,” but then you find yourself only talking to HR.
