Facebook Marketing Partners under review for Instagram data scraping
According to a recent Business Insider article, Facebook recently announced their “Facebook Marketing Partners,” are under review due to indications that there has been widespread misuse of Instagram user data that violate the Terms of Service. Facebook Marketing Partners include over 600 marketing and advertising firms that the social network officially backs.
Business Insider discovered multiple companies have been openly breaching Instagram’s rules and illegally harvesting users’ public data without consent and storing passwords. In turn, Facebook, the parent company of Instagram, launched a comprehensive review of all official Facebook Marketing Partners.
Instagram has already taken action against companies who have violated the terms and sending cease-and-desist demands to those in violation. Facebook is also working to develop better tools to detect data scraping.
