Marc by Marc Jacobs revisits Instagram and Twitter in search of models

Good news for all you wanna-be catwalkers unwilling to be subjected to the vagaries of modeling agencies: Marc by Marc Jacobs is casting its spring 2015 ad campaign through Instagram and Twitter.

The brand took the same route this spring for its fall 2014 campaign and received an overwhelming response of 70,000 submissions. From that gargantuan pool of talent, 9 models were selected and flown to New York for a photo shoot styled by Katie Grand and shot by David Sims. The same pair will handle this year’s lucky winners.

So here’s how to submit: Upload your best picture(s) to one or both of the aforementioned platforms and hashtag it #castmemarc. Yup, it’s that easy. You’ll have to act fast, though: The casting call ends on the 26th… which is tomorrow.

Marc by Marc Jacobs isn’t the only brand or retailer using Instagram and Twitter to cast models. ASOS cast one of their Curve Models, Lauren Punter, from more than 2,000 entries earlier this year.

This pivot toward a more organic talent search shouldn’t come as a surprise. Fashion has been exceptionally receptive to Instagram and as we’ve noted on the blog, the photo-sharing platform is doing a pretty good job of interrupting many of the tried-and-true formulas of the industry.
